The golingo legal team have prepared this Privacy Policy to explain how we collect, use and share any of your personal data.

This policy details the personal data golingo Ltd (“golingo”, “we”, “us”, “our”) receives about you, how we process it and your rights in relation to it.

We will update this policy as regulations change. If we do, we’ll update our social media and website to let you know. If it’s a substantial change, we’ll email you.

Who We Are

Our website address is: https://www.golingo.co.uk.

golingo Ltd is a UK company registered at 71-75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London, England, WC2H 9JQ under number 13402760. Your personal data is therefore treated according to GDPR and EU regulations adopted into UK law in January 2021.

General

By using or accessing golingo products you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy. If you don’t, you must let us know and we’ll delete all record of you from our system, including any learning records or data.

golingo does not share any of your data outside golingo Ltd.

We collect information as you use the golingo products.

When you use the service, we collect data on your learning and generate data based on your activity in the platform such as the lessons you have attempted and your progress. We collect technical data on how you use the products.

Some of this data capture requires ‘cookies’ to be used within your browser. This allows us to see if you’re a returning user and deliver appropriate content.

We use Google Analytics to track some progress data. We use various Meta products to measure the success of your interaction with some of our website and social media content.

We only collect data which allows us to carry out statistical analysis of interactions on the product so we can then improve it, e.g., if many user skip a certain lesson, it may be that the lesson is too difficult or there are technical issues with it.

What We Do & Don’t Record

You provide us with your first name, surname, email address, nickname/short name.

We do not record passwords. They are stored in Amazon Web Services and we can’t see them.

We do not record and cannot access any information you post or have posted to social media.

We do not record any data which would allow us, or an employee, or a third party, to identify you outside the platform.

We do not capture (or ask for) any payment information.

Where a user is under 18 and using golingo as part of an educational establishment such as a school, ‘dummy’ credentials are used which allow the user to track their progress but removes the requirement for an email address. Therefore these users are not identifiable – no personal information is stored.

We may record the following data for all users:

  • Lessons executed
  • User performance within those lessons
  • Audio of the user speaking responses in a conversation or lesson
  • Mouse actions
  • Scrolling & typing
  • Technical information, including operating system, browser, device type, screen size
  • Technical error information
  • IP addresses
  • Navigation through the product and related web assets
  • Referrers and URL parameters
  • Session duration

All the above data is retained unless you specifically tell us to delete it. Various algorithms use this data to make the service better for others. None of this data is used by golingo employees directly.

As golingo focuses on learning through conversation, audio of you speaking may be sent to third party providers such as Google or Amazon Web Services. This data is anonymised and cannot be traced back to you.

As a user you are completely anonymous.

golingo has no peer to peer networking, no social networking and as such your data is not shared with any other user.

golingo may in future collect information about you from third parties if it makes the conversation experience more useful in real life.

We may contact you to participate in research and development. We may ask you questions about your experience with golingo and any technical difficulties. The information you provide in response is confidential and will not be used or shared outside the golingo team

When you use our website or product we collect technical data (as detailed above).

Cookies

In addition, we use “cookies” to record very small amounts of data on your computer – this is common internet practice. This tells Google Analytics whether you’re a new or returning user.

Cookies can be disabled in most browsers but this may affect the behaviour of golingo and its ability to deliver you the learning journey you want.

You may have cookies from third parties on your computer which track your journey to our site or product. We can’t be responsible for that but please be aware you can delete these in your browser settings.

golingo appears to perform properly with “Do Not Track” enabled in browser settings. However this is something we cannot guarantee because browser technology changes frequently.

Content Delivery

golingo uses Google and Meta technology to deliver content tailored to you, including emails. We do not deliver any content advertising third party services. All content delivered is solely related to golingo and your experience with our products.

golingo uses the information described above to communicate with you, deliver our services, for internal troubleshooting, analysis, research and development.

Handling Your Data

If a lawful request is made to disclose data by a UK court order we will have to make that data available. This is extremely unlikely given golingo holds very limited personal information. We will share data only where we believe it is necessary to comply with the law, to protect golingo interests, or prevent harm.

Your data will go with the business. If golingo is acquired, your personal data goes with it, but remains protected by this policy.

You can request deletion of your personal data, or access to it.

Your anonymous activity data will be retained – it’s impossible to delete data relating specifically to you if that data is anonymous and therefore by definition, not related to you.
